The Weekly WORD
- Monday the 28th, at 7 p.m., join WORD in welcoming musician Ian Svenonius (The Make-Up, Nation of Ulysses, Chain and the Gang) for a performance, presentation, and seance (!!) in celebration of the release of his Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ‘n’ Roll Group. Yes. We said seance. No, you do not want to miss it. Musical and semi-occult proceedings are co-sponsored by Akashic Books and will feature an introduction from Vol. 1 Brooklyn
- On Tuesday the 29th, 7 p.m., New York Times columnist and cocktail expert Rosie Schaap will read from Drinking With Men, her aptly-titled new memoir about being a woman in the male-dominated world of bar regulars. Jami Attenberg (The Middlesteins) will perform introductions; following the reading Rosie will sign books and take questions.
- On January the 30th, 7 p.m., blogger and lit. powerhouse David Gutowski will be helping us celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the Largehearted Bo!. This party will feature readings from Karolina Waclawiak (How to Get Into the Twin Palms) and Jami Attenberg (The Middlesteins), music by Jon DeRosa, a book raffle, cupcakes, AND wine.
- Saturday, February the 2nd, we’ve got two book group meetings: the WORD book group will be discussing Safe as Houses by Marie-Helene Bertino at 12 p.m.; then, at 3 p.m., our Romance Book Group will take on The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt. Oh yeah.
And that’s it: January is over! But fear not. February gets real event-y, real fast. Stay tuned for an Amelia Bedelia birthday celebration, a launch party for Sean Ferrell, the 2nd meeting of the David Foster Wallace Appreciation Society, a look into the art of translation, and classic and music writing book groups. Phew.
